Bathroom Demo

Sisters Bath Project Update: Follow along and watch the progress!

Demo Day: Where Precision Meets Progress

What an exciting start to July! We began demolition on our returning clients’ primary bathroom renovation in Sisters. Our precision demo involves a complex plan of watching a cramped 1983 bathroom begin its journey toward becoming the modern sanctuary our clients have trusted us to deliver.

Demo Done Right

Many people do not realize demolition isn't random destruction. It's a carefully planned and precision removal process. There's a huge difference between strategic demolition and just swinging a sledgehammer randomly to destroy something. When you're planning to add windows, doors, and completely reconfigure a space, every piece you remove needs to be carefully planned.

We're not just tearing things out. We are methodically removing only what needs to be removed while preserving the structural elements that we can work with. Our precision demo approach saves time, reduces waste, and sets up the entire main bathroom renovation for success.

Window and Door Installation

The process of adding windows and doors may seem simple. However, it’s a complex and procedural process.

Step 1: We removed the existing siding carefully so we can reinstall it later.

Step 2: We brace the interior ceilings to maintain structural support while we work.

Step 3: Next comes cutting out the existing exterior wall - this requires accuracy to avoid damaging surrounding structure.

Step 4: We installed the newly re-framed wall, followed by shear panel installation for structural integrity.

Step 5: Before we can move forward, we need to obtain our county framing and sheer inspection to ensure everything meets code requirements.

Step 6: After a successful inspection, then we can install the vapor barrier and move on to installing the new Milgard windows.

Step 7: Finally, we get to reinstall the existing siding to maintain that seamless look with the rest of the home.

Why We Choose Milgard Windows for Bathroom Renovations

For this bathroom remodel, Milgard windows were chosen for aesthetics, energy-efficiency, and functionality. These windows are resistant to humidity and condensation. Milgard's reputation for quality gives us confidence that these windows will withstand the demanding bathroom environment making them a smart choice for our bathroom renovation.

Interior Layout

At this stage, we've also re-framed the interior walls according to the new bathroom layout. We can really start to see the modern bathroom vision coming together. The crowded 1983 layout is ready to become a space designed to become a modern retreat filled with function, convenience, and comfort.

The new framing is ready to accommodate the walk-in shower with curbless entry, the floating double vanity, and the dedicated water closet for privacy - all while bringing our clients' dream of a sleek modern bathroom to life.

Sequencing Matters

One thing that sets our Bend-area design-build approach apart is understanding that bathroom renovations require precise sequencing. You can't just start installing finish materials - the structural work, inspections, and rough-ins all have to happen in the right order.

Our team handles everything in-house, from the initial architectural drafting to coordinating these critical inspections. When you are working with exterior walls, structural modifications, and adding new openings, proper planning and permits are absolutely vital for both safety, long-term performance, and ultimately the success of the updated bathroom.

The success of the bathroom remodel depends on each of the demo steps being done correctly. There's no shortcuts in demo or structural work.

What’s Next

Stay tuned for our next update as we move forward creating a dream bathroom for our returning client. We’ll start to get a real sense of how dramatically different this space is going to be!

Each week brings new progress. We love sharing the behind-the-scenes details as we create a magazine-worthy bathroom renovation in the heart of Central Oregon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why is precision demo important instead of just tearing everything out?

Precision demolition saves time and money by preserving structural elements and materials that can be reused. It also prevents damage to surrounding areas and allows for better planning of the bathroom rebuild process. Random destruction can cause more problems than it solves, especially when you are adding new windows and doors that require specific structural support.

Q. Do I need permits for a bathroom renovation?

Permits, framing and shear inspections ensure that all structural modifications meet current building codes and safety standards. When you’re cutting into exterior walls and adding new openings, inspectors verify that proper support is maintained and that the work does not compromise the home’s structural integrity. These permits and inspections are important and required before work can proceed to the next phase.

Q. Can I use my bathroom during renovation?

This is part of the sacrifice of having your main bathroom renovated. During a full remodel, you typically cannot use your bathroom. Most bathroom remodels require shutting off water and electricity to safely complete plumbing, electrical, and structural work. We work efficiently to complete projects as quickly as possible while maintaining the quality of your bathroom renovation.
