Marsh Road - April 2025
Marsh Rd. Project Update: Follow along and watch the progress!
Vision is Becoming Reality
What an incredible month! We completed our framing and received approval of our framing inspection, which gave us the greenlight to install our sleek new black windows and begin re-siding this home. This is when homeowners start getting excited as they can see their vision becoming a reality.
Framing Approval - The Structural Greenlight
Getting that framing inspection approval is like hitting every green light on Main Street - we’re cruising on through. It means our structural work meets all safety and code requirements, and we can confidently move forward with the exterior elements that will define this home remodel’s new farmhouse character.
Window and Siding - Dramatic Update
Installing the new black windows creates such a dramatic update to this home’s appearance. There’s something about quality windows that instantly elevates the entire look of a home. Black windows might seem like a small detail, but they completely transform a home's character. It's amazing how one design choice can make such a dramatic impact.
For this project, we chose to use Hardie fiber cement siding to replace the previous engineered wood siding. Both are great products, but the Hardie siding delivers a more subtle wood texture once painted that looks really sharp against those new black windows.
The Art of Mixed Siding Styles
This house is receiving a beautiful mixture of siding styles that creates a spectacular visual interest: lap siding with a 6 inch reveal, board and batten and exterior stone. This combination provides an authentic farmhouse character - it’s not just one flat siding treatment. It’s thoughtfully varied textures that catch light differently throughout the day.
We also replaced the old whitewood fascia board with cypress forest trim. This upgrade is going to make a huge difference in long-term maintenance. Cypress forest trim is a specially treated lumber that resists moisture, insects, and decay. This incredibly stable and weather-resistant product really stands up well to Central Oregon’s elements while requiring less maintenance to keep its original appearance. Investing in quality trim like cypress saves headaches and money down the road.
When All the Pieces Come Together
This month perfectly showcased how every trade brings their A-game - from framing specialists earning crucial approvals to window crews handling precision installations to siding experts creating that perfect farmhouse look. When you see all these specialized craftsmen working in harmony, you understand why quality renovations require this level of coordination and expertise.
What’s Next
With the exterior taking shape and those stunning black windows installed, we are moving toward the finishing phases that will reveal this home’s complete farmhouse renovation. Stay tuned for our next adventure as we continue this home remodel to create a family’s dream home.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why choose fiber cement over engineered wood siding?
While both are excellent products, fiber cement siding like Hardie offers superior durability and a more subtle wood texture when painted. It provides better resistance to Central Oregon’s weather extremes while maintaining a premium appearance with minimal maintenance.
Q: How do mixed siding styles affect a home’s appearance?
With strategic planning combining various siding elements, we were able to create a visual depth and authentic farmhouse character. Different textures add interest, catch light uniquely throughout the day and eliminate the flat, monotonous look of single-material exteriors.
Q: What makes cypress forest trim worth the investment over standard lumber?
Cypress forest trim is naturally resistant to moisture, insects and decay. It maintains its appearance longer and requires less maintenance than traditional wood trim in Central Oregon’s varied climate conditions.
